Naturally Whiten Teeth At Home With Diy charcoal toothpaste Recipe. Charcoal is an effective tool to help clean and brighten teeth. It can be used by itself, mixed with other ingredients to create a toothpaste/powder. My favorite way to use activated charcoal for whitening, is to mix it with coconut oil (the antibacterial properties of coconut oil help reduce plaque and stains), baking soda (alkalizes acid in the mouth and helps to remove plaque and stains) and a drop or two of essential oils.

Found out that even though it temporarily makes the mouth look extremely black (picture for emphasis!) it has the same effect as it does when ingested: it pulls toxins from the mouth and removes stains. (Fair warning: when you open your mouth, it is completely black and rather scary looking! Right after I did this the first time I was intensely worried that it would stain my teeth.)
To my surprise, all of the black washes away and it makes your teeth feel extremely clean and smooth. After a few uses, my teeth were noticeably whiter too.
Further research I’ve done on this showed that activated charcoal can actually be helpful in changing the pH and health of the mouth, and as such is effective in preventing cavities and killing the bad bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis. For this reason, I now use it as part of my remineralizing protocol for teeth, along with my remineralizing toothpaste.
Of course, it is important to check with your own doctor and dentist before using this or any substance internally or orally.
This recipe makes approximately 4 tablespoons of charcoal toothpaste.
Ingredients
1/2 Teaspoon Activated Charcoal
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
1-2 Drops of Essential Oils (Optional)
Directions
Melt the coconut oil in a small sauce pan or in a double boiler.
Once melted, pour into a small bowl and mix in the activated charcoal, baking soda and essential oils.
Pour the mixture into a small container and store in a cool dry place.
How To Use:
I recommend using this whitening toothpaste 1-2 times a week. The charcoal can be messy, so make sure to keep a towel near by just in case!

Mix half a tsp of baking soda with half a tsp of water in a small cup into a fine paste. Put your toothbrush into the cup, and start brushing your teeth for about 1-2 minutes.
Brush your teeth only up and down and no on the sideways. Remember that the taste of baking soda is not pleasant. Then, wash your mouth with water, as well as the toothbrush.
Repeat this process every second day for one or two weeks and you will notice a small difference in the whiteness of your teeth. After a couple of weeks, continue doing this just once or twice a week.
Caution
Be aware that the baking soda is a mild abrasive, so you should not be brushing your teeth any longer, otherwise it may begin to erode the enamel on your teeth.
Also, remember that brushing your teeth with baking soda should not replace brushing your teeth with a toothpaste every day.

October 17, 2018 First I bought the whitener gel, thinking I could use it in my old tooth trays that I got from the dentist. When I couldn't find them, I went back and got the whole kit which comes with the LED light, mouth tray and a couple of tubes of gel.
It works great. My teeth were getting pretty yellow, and after just 5 or 6 times of using it (15 minutes, each evening) I can see a noticeable difference. The gel I used to use with my old whitening kit that I got from the dentist really made my mouth sore after a few days -- the gel from Bright White Smiles doesn't seem to do that.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend, and will purchase again!

I like the way these stick to your teeth compared to some of the other brands, they were definitely noticeably whiter as well. I was just using them once a day, but for the best results definitely follow the instructions and do them twice a day. Sometimes my teeth get a little sensitive so I was trying to give them a break.
